in the garden

lavender with bee, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

I spent several hours this weekend in my garden. It was bliss. I pulled weeds, watched insects, and chatted with my neighbors. I also ate mostly out of the garden because I was on my own and I'm quite content with a lunch of grilled zucchini.

I know everyone isn't as enthusiastic about gardening as I am--what are your magical/blissful spaces and places?

This summer I am beginning to see what you mean about gardens.

When I get to go away, it's the sandstone desert that does it for me, partly because not a lot of people feel the same way. It's vacant and natural, and that's what I love.

It's great that you're feeling better. (I had no idea that phantom pain could be experienced so long after an amputation!)

Bliss for me is my bed, provided that my dogs have left me enough room to lay comfortably, and standing by the water's edge when it's high tide (I live in Salem, MA, in the harbor district).

Gardens are wonderful, especially flower gardens, but gardening is something else. I don't like bugs (except for ladybugs, of course) and I'm supremely lazy. :)

Beautiful shot! I like to garden in limited amounts, but my blissful place is the library. Surrounded by books and ideas and silence...well, usually not to silent anymore but I like to pretend.

Sorry about your phantom pain episode. My mom experiences that frequently and I know it's difficult.

For me, it's my yoga sangha (community). It's where I breathe the easiest.

I'm a very sporadic gardener - usually just planting a few annuals in spring and more bulbs in the fall - but every so often I do enjoy playing in the dirt.

Bliss - snuggling with my wonderful husband, singing certain favorite hymns or choruses with others, enjoying the view into the trees at our weekend place.

I'm glad Dooce directed me here - your photos are gorgeous and I appreciate your attitude and outlook.

You are fortunate to have those lovely stinging insects to tend to your pretty flowers! I envy you, but not too much as I tend about 500,000 of these lovely girls who call home one of ten hives that my sons and I tend. Liquid gold is the sweet reward for taking time to make room for them to grow.
