for comfort

my favoritest socks (yum!), originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

“I know there is strength in the differences between us.
I know there is comfort where we overlap.”
~Ani DiFranco

Sometimes when I'm feeling angry, sad, depressed or frustrated, I need a bit of comfort. Sometimes that comfort comes in the form of a cuppa of my favorite tea blend. Sometimes it's some time out for scratching a kitty behind the ears. Sometimes it's my favorite black sweater. Sometimes it's a pair of socks so soft and cozy that they are like a hug from the universe.

What do you seek out for comfort?

Speaking of favorite blends of tea, Jana, I have found the perfect candy tea. Rooibos with lemon balm. And milk and sugar, of course. I went out to tea with Sheila last week, and this is what was being offered. I fell so hard in love that we brought some loose tea home, and I've made it every day. I think you should go find some. Or at least find some lemon balm and mix it with some rooibos. As far as uncaffeinated teas go, it even tastes a little like real tea. But candy!

Food, unfortunately. It's done bad things to my waistline. :(

Sometimes it's a sad song that makes you cry more, so you get all your crying out. Currently my favorite song to lament to is "Somewhere over the rainbow" by Iz (Israel "Iz" Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole). :)

For comfort: books, cats, and tea. In various orders.
I will have to look into these socks though...

I walk down to the newstand that sells magazines in English and buy myself a copy of the New Yorker. Then I go across the street, order myself a glass of white wine and read it cover to cover.

When I need comfort, I go back and read a favorite book or see a favorite movie.

Also, I've been known to treat myself to a trip to the library, to just sit and read the magazines and browse the shelves for a couple of hours.

Oh yes, definitely reading. I once kept Thanksgiving from being lonely and self-pitying by treating myself to a nice dinner out with an old favorite (Pride & Prejudice) for company. I do love Jane!

Reading, candle, quiet music, big mug of cocoa with ice cream and chocolate sauce floating in it.

Cinnamon toast or cardamom rice pudding can also work.

CAPTCHA: blerst. Sounds old-fashioned and painful.

I think I need some of these for CT. Same color.

I usually seek comfort in a lavender-filled tube-like pillow, wrapped around my neck, or perching on the edge of the wild ravine behind my home, listening to birdsong.
