so sweet

Went to Meeting this morning for the first time in many weeks. Felt so buoyed by the smiling faces of Friends. I had some important insights while I was there, but most of all I just let myself be happy that I felt well enough to attend again.

John and I will celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary tomorrow even though the official date is Tuesday (we tied the knot on 9/2/92--isn't that a great date and we didn't even plan it to happen that way!). I guess the traditional gift for this anniversary is "silver holloware" (whatever). Not our style. We're going to keep it simple and maybe watch a video, share some memories and go to sleep in each others' arms.

Me, I'm hoping that I get a pretty good backrub. That's what I always want most anyways.

Oh, and I'm baking a chocolate zucchini cake for dessert. Yum!

:)

What have been your favorite ways to mark your anniversaries? Perhaps nothing will top Boston for quite some time, but I am looking forward to the attempt to in the years that lie ahead....

I've just stumbled across your blog about a week ago (I'm a former Mormon myself and have developed a fascination with blogs of people who have made similar choices).

Anyway, we married on December 24 so we would have an excuse to "overlook" celebrating the anniversary. But then we have proceeded to have a holiday party on that date, every year for 16 years.

And um, how's this for weird, my birthday is 9/2.

Hope you continue to feel better.

Yum indeed. I love squash cakes/breads/muffins, especially chocolate ones.

What praytell is "holloware"?

Some of us can claim to be not TOO much older than the amount of time you guys have been married..... Ha ha, just kidding. :-) Congratulations!

We have "our restaurant" that we decided to go to on our anniversaries, starting with year #1. Year #2 turned out to be a dramatic day filled with crazy family stuff due to a younger brother getting majorly busted while his parents were out of town. Kinda ruined the romantic dinner-out plans. Maybe with #3 coming up, we'll try again this year. The back rub sounds like a GREAT idea, though....

We usually remember that it's our anniversary when my mother-in-law gives us a card. We have been married for 21 yrs and together for 26.

I think silver holloware means silver-plated items (silverware, etc). Not my kind of thing at all.

John and I enjoy celebrating anniversaries. We've had some real dud years (mostly when we had little kids and very little money) and some real winners. Many times my family have taken the kids so we could have a long weekend--which is a great blessing.

In recognition of our anniversary we usually return to the nice restaurant where he popped the question. We also occasionally go back to the beautiful hotel where we spent our honeymoon night. No gifts exchanged.

Seventeen years and still happily counting.

Congratulations to you!

Ah, I see. Yeah, not my thing either.

Not being married/partnered, I've never had an anniversary, but I think that I'd likely want to go out somewhere really special to eat, whether a nice restaurant, a picnic on the beach, in the mountains, etc., and just spend some intimate time together. Maybe go away for the weekend. That'd be nice.

My friend wikipedia said hollow ware "is a term that refers to table service items such as sugar bowls, creamers, coffee pots, teapots, soup tureens, hot food covers, water pitchers, platters, butter pat plates and other metal items that went with the china on a dining car table."

We switch off planning our anniversary every year. After a nice dinner/outing/date/whatever the evening brings we sit down with our anniversary book. We talk about the things that happened during the year and write them down. Then we go through our pictures and pick one out for our anniversary book.

I know it's not the most exciting tradition, but it's ours....and I love it.

Married 26 years in November. At first, we would skip off for a private dinner and alone time, but over the years, I have found that everyone in our circle (family, kids, friends)has been such a part of this union, I really like having them around to celebrate with us. A November BBQ is terrific in Texas!

Happy Anniversary! I've never been fortunate to celebrate a "real" anniversary yet, but I think that whatever makes you happy is exactly what you should get. :-)

I am also new to your blog. I like your simplicity and humanness very much. I recently had a mastectomy of my right breast and I have had phantom pains there which always surprises me. Thank you for sharing the meaningful parts of your life in a manner that allows others to be able to relate to you.

Happy anniversary, and congratulations. May you have a long, happy, healthy life together!

For our anniversary (we've had 7 so far) we don't have a particular tradition, though we've done B&B weekends a coupla times, and major fancy dinners out. Sure beats the 2 anniversaries when he was deployed, and the one I spent in the hospital. Really, we could just have a nice dinner in the kitchen and snuggle in front of the tv and I'd be happy.
