Twenty-six years ago I lost my right leg to bone cancer. Awhile ago I had an antibiotic-resistant infection in my lower left leg, and now I'm healing from surgery and feeling better every day.
I like gardening, making history, outrigger canoeing, trying new things, and my afternoon cup of tea.

As an FYI: my docs and I are working hard to make sure this is the last time this happens! Also, my body is STRONG and is fighting the infection--it's spreading far slower than before and is more localized.
And if I'm lucky, maybe I'll convince my docs to try maggot therapy. I'm really thinking that would be the grooviest ever! Am I crazy or what? And, just think, that would make the best blogpost EVAH!

Well we know you have a really good camera for photographing the maggot therapy.... and you could even count it as historical research?
Jana! I read on John's blog you are in the hospital for surgery. I don't really know what to say, but I wanted you to know that I am thinking about you, and I'm soooooooooooooooo sorry you have to go through this again. I had a tooth pulled today. So I am sitting in bed feeling miserable, too. Please be better.
