berries (and chocolate!)

dark chocolate is sexy, originally uploaded by pilgrimgirl.

It occurred to me yesterday morning, as I was squealing with delight at the absolute perfect 'strawberry-ness' of a fresh strawberry that I was eating after washing it off with the garden hose, that I wish I could have the whole world in my garden tasting berries along with me. I can't imagine that hate and war could continue in the face of such goodness.

Ditto for a good bar of super dark chocolate....

Hey, I am not sure if you remember a blog you wrote about 2 years ago about Sky High Hope Camp, but I've found you through google, and I attend Sky High Hope camp, and I have done so for 10 years now (I started as 8, I'm turning 18 soon). If you want, we can talk about who's still around and who isn't...you can email me @ lenlij@yahoo.com ... purely optional, but I don't seem to remember you...maybe you're really old school or something...email me, I'd recommend it.

I am undoubtedly really, really old school! I attended SHHC in '85-'89 (maybe in '90, too, but I can't remember for sure). I've still got friends among the counselors (that I knew as fellow campers!!) who give me a report nearly every year. :)

It's my dream to return to SHHC and bring my kids along one of these years. Unfortunately it coincides with a Symposium that I typically attend every in August.

Anonymous, I am thrilled for you, that you've attended Sky High for 10 years and that the legacy of that special camp lives on! So does Steve still do his Mister Rogers impression? Does Nancy still sing about food that "tastes like soap"? Do you still have silly skits and a dance? What do you look forward to every year??

Jana, sorry I haven't responded sooner, but Nancy is no longer the camp director! About 5 years ago, we had to switch the camp location. In fact, one year, camp was only a reunion at a park because of the Hayman fires. After that, we switched locations to Woodland Park (they wanted to reserve our week so deep in August that school had started already). The new director is Connie Herrick, who was once in charge of the CITs at the old camp. You might remember her. However, just because Nancy isn't up there, each year we still sing about the food that tastes like soap, and the bed thats made of rope, clap clap, we're glad we're here. In the 10 years that I have known Steve, he has not shown any signs of the Mr. Rogers impression. However, we still do the counselor skits on the first night, and the camper skits on the second night, with the dance landing usually on the thursday of the week. I'm trying to think who you would know that still attends.....there's Jenny Smith (arts & crafts), James Laramie (sp?)...I'm not sure. I could, seriously, write you endlessly about what I look forward to each year...I mean, you know that since you went up there for some time, but you need and should definitely come next year. I have the dates and everything, so you can plan ahead...you may even know my sister who went at one point during '85-'89. What's your email address or if you have AIM or something...keep me posted.
