first

Today, took my first-ever swim in the ocean. Surrounded by jellies, siblings, John, and my kids. Glorious. Spent two hours out swimming in the early morning and another two in the evening. Kudos to John and Chris for rescuing me from the riptide (aka strong-for-me current) more than once.

Warm, relaxing, scary, exhilarating. Can't wait to do it again :)

But ocean water sure tastes nasty.

Sigh. I sure miss the beach. Sigh.

And no, saltwater is just an acquired taste! ;o) As is the smell of the ocean.

Sigh.

Anyway, glad you are enjoying it! If there are dolphins nearby, put your head underwater and you're likely to hear them (sound carries quite well).

Is it really a taste I will acquire (blech)? :)

Don't you live near the Great Salt Lake Rich (or am I misremembering)? Is it in any way a substitute for the ocean???

I have lived within a stone's throw of the beach for most of the last 15 years. I've always enjoyed it from a distance. I can't believe that it's taken me so darn long to actually get more than my toes wet! But now I'm addicted. I'm sure we'll be there most every weekend this summer!

The more you have it in your mouth, eyes, ears and nose, the more the appeal (and the less yucky it becomes). That's my experience anyway...

The GSL is very salty, but of course that's not the appeal! Waves, sea life, and did I mention waves? That's the appeal.

Unfortunately California became too crowded and too expensive to continue living there. I cling to a diminishing hope that someday a miracle will happen and I'll have lots of money (and lots of people will have left) and I will come back. Until then, UT has its own natural appeal, but I still have to go home and get my saltwater fix every so often... :o)
