Got up early this morning, did some restorative yoga, then a friend took me to see a stray mama cat with a nest of newborn kittens, eyes not yet opened. Mama is dusky gray with bright yellow eyes.
After that I went to the garden and spent a few minutes watering and getting acquainted with the latest blooms (all the while being 'buzzed' by Junebugs--definitely not the sharpest of critters that I find in my garden). My rose "Mon Cherie" has a bud just opening, and I can't wait to return tomorrow to see its bright face (the first since I planted it in my garden). I met two small lizards who were frolicking in the lavender bushes--stretching out on the hot rocks that border the space and doing little lizard push-ups (why? I wish I knew)...
Now I am sipping tea, regrouping, making plans for the upcoming week and just enjoying the open-ness of a later-summer Saturday afternoon.
P.S. I think the blue of the sky in the photo above is my new favorite color.

I like the contrast of the deep purple of the flower with the cerulean of the sky.
Except for the dive-bombing Junebugs, this sounds like a wonderful day.
I am here via Patry and am so glad to have found you.
Jana - this photo and your description of your Saturday reminded me of this poem (which is technically about Spring, but beautifully appropriate nonetheless).
O sweet spontaneous
earth how often have
the
doting
fingers of
prurient philosophers pinched
and
poked
thee,
has the naughty thumb
of science prodded
thy
beauty. how
often have religions taken
thee upon their scraggy knees
squeezing and
buffeting thee that thou mightest conceive
gods
(but
true
to the incomparable
couch of death thy
rhythmic
lover
thou answerest
them only with
spring)

Sounds like a lovely and peaceful day! I could have gone for a little more peacefulness in mine. The mama cat looks like my own dear cat, from your description, so I liked that part of your day best. :-)
Male fence lizards are the ones that do the push-ups. It's a territorial display and/or a method of impressing females. Human analogues of this kind of behavior can most likely be found in just about any gym, anywhere.

Well, I was impressed by their behavior, but I doubt that I was the intended audience for their masculine display of muscle. ;)
I love watching lizards do push-ups.
