I just decided to write my own meme. And you are all hereby invited to join in the memey-ness, either in the comments or on your own blog...
1) If you were a pair of socks, what would you look like?
Striped and woolly. Handknit.
2) How many bottle openers do you own? Are any of them kifed from the hotel where you stayed on your honeymoon?
Two, one hot pink from The Madonna Inn.
3) Utilikilts: Hot or Not?
Hot when John is wearing one.
4) When you are at the grocery store late at night, what snack food calls your name?
Dark chocolate truffles, SunChips
5) How many scars do you have? What's your biggest? Your favorite?
Too many to count. 7 prominent ones. Biggest: seam on right leg. Favorite: down the inside of my left arm, from a fencenail (blech).
6) What's the name of your computer? Your wireless network? Your car?
Junebug, AdamondiAhman, The Car
7) Who was your first kiss? Your most recent kiss? If you have cats, how many times/day do you kiss them?
I can't remember if his name was Ryan or Steve. He kissed me without any warning and I was so shocked that I couldn't enjoy it one bit. The first time I volitionally kissed someone it was RobertM (who I googled awhile back and he's now an attorney in Colorado). Last kiss: a sweet little armlick from EllyCat. Probably more than 20 times/day.
8) What do you wear on days when no one you know will see you?
Red plaid boxer shorts and a ratty tee. Glasses. Hair in ponytail.
9) Phobias?
RATS, falling, heights, that my fly is down while I'm teaching class, that I have cancer again.
10) When you were in school, did you ever negotiate with your teacher for higher grades? If so, did you ever beg or cry?
Nope (though I did cry in front of a teacher-friend once, it was because I was telling her about a recent death in my family and wasn't because I was begging for a regrade of my exam). I should note, though, that my face spouts tears at the oddest moments--my eyes often water (or my nose runs) when I am intensely focused, and some people have interpreted these as tears of worry or fear...
11) If you had 60 research papers to read, what would you do to avoid reading them?
Write blogmemes (duh!)
12) Your favorite train ride ever?
Summer of 2000, Isle of Man trolley

1. Tall, light and warm
2. one (not counting the one on my leatherman), with a magnet on it
3. The Scotsman in my blood says "Aye" to kilts
4. Blue Bunny Chocolate Almond Fudge ice cream (next best thing to Baskin Robbins Chocolate Almond, and lots cheaper).
5. 2, on my face. Favorite (if you can call it that) was getting hit by a surfboard - 10 stitches.
6. Dr. Pertz. TenneSea. Vibe.
7. Marie Aldrich, 1st Grade (totally caught me by surprise). My daughter Kiersten. Haven't had a cat for a couple of years now. Do cat kisses make your nose tingle? It always did me for some strange reason!
8. Usually a pair of jeans or cotton pj bottoms, and free t-shirts I get from work, wearing a hat to hide my oily hair if I haven't had a shower yet.
9. Wasps and other stinging insects.
10. I had a programming class in college in which a female friend and I would compare test scores after becoming competitive with each other. I discovered one day that she and I had answered a problem (both incorrectly) exactly the same way, and he had marked my paper off 4 points, and hers by only 2! I realized then that cute girls have an unfair advantage in life...
11. TV, books, internet (in no particular order)
12. March of 1978, Rome to Pompeii
Aren't phobias by definition irrational fears? I think some of your answers to that question are more fears than phobias. But hey--you're the one who wrote it, so I suppose you can answer it how you want!
Janeanchovy:
RATS: definitely a phobia. I have a complete and irrational meltdown when I get near them. My friends who've seen me respond to rats are pretty shocked at the way I completely lose control of myself.
Falling: This is how most of my nightmares end. My waking self isn't quite as afraid. But as someone who falls a lot (given the whole artificial leg thing), my fears are a bit deeper than just the garden variety thing.
Heights: A friend of mine that has a fear of heights once explained it this way--when she gets somewhere high she just wants to jump off because she wants the terror to end. That's how I feel when I'm up high. And I can't go up elevators or staircases with clear walls (like I've never been past the 3rd floor in the fancy SL library for that very reason) because of how strong the fear is.
That my fly is down while I'm teaching class: maybe not phobia, but I now go and check the fly every time before I teach. I'm now sort of OCD about it
That I have cancer again: every time I get a weird sore, lump, or other anomaly, I'm sure it's back. Other cancer patients that I've talked to say they feel the same way. Cancer is so sneaky--the way your very own body betrays you--it's really hard to not be phobic about oneself after that.
