a pilgrimgirl survey (participate and win a prize!)

Friends, Readers, Countrywomen:

My curiosity is getting the best of me. I want to know more about each of you and why you visit my blog. So I've put together this very unscientific survey to get feedback from each of you. Please respond and email it to me here: phddillyat yahoo dawtcom. If you wish to fill out the survey anonymously, you may do so by leaving an anon comment on this post. Those who submit a survey via email will be entered into a PRIZE DRAWING. Yep, you heard that correctly: I will randomly select one of the respondents to receive their choice of a $10 donation to their favorite charity or an enlarged print of one of my photos (you choose the size and photo you'd like--up to 11"x14"--and I'll have it shipped to you from shutterfly.com). I will draw the winner on March 30th.

Why do I read: Besides hoping that someone will mention how fabulous I am on their blog I'd have to say that I want to gain insight, feel connected and to read about what makes us different and what makes us the same and remember how beautiful that is.

Email address: You know it
Blog address: None but http://tanyasue.com/ is my website (that currently sucks!)
Tell me a little bit about yourself (such as age; sex/gender; region; religion; pets; milk or dark chocolate?): I am a 32 year old single female who is LDS and lives in So Cal. I am not an animal person, I am a neat freak. As far as milk or dark goes, yes-I prefer mild but dark is just fine in a pinch. I love caramels the best though.

How did you originally find pilgrimgirl? Through you Jana.

How long have you been a reader? Awhile, but lurked mostly at first.

How frequently do you read? Daily.

Do you use a Reader or a Blog Aggregator to check for updates? If so, which one(s)? I have no idea what that means so then the answer is no.

What types of posts are your favorites: photo, make me smile, deep thoughts, feminism, religion, (dis)ability, if this is you, poetry, etc? All of them. I really love when you post things that get people talking and sharing about them on a deeper level.

What types of posts do you skim or skip? Make me smile. I have no idea why because when I actually read them I enjoy them.

What would you like to see more of at pilgrimgirl? A list of available bachelors in my area that like loud, obnoxious females? Feel free to screen them for people I may be interested in.

If you could change one thing about this blog, what would it be? I don’t think I would change anything. I get a lot out of it already.

What are your 3 favorite blogs? By Common Consent, Feminist Mormon Housewives, Exponent II

Why do you read blogs? Many reasons. It is a way to connect with people when I don’t feel good enough to in person. I find that there are others who think differently than most in main stream Mormonism and that helps me feel less crazy. It causes me to think about different things than I normally would. The not feeling crazy part is the most important.

How long have you been a reader? I've been aware of it for a few years, but haven't read regularly until ~6, 8 months ago-ish.
How frequently do you read? Depends -- a few times a week, at least.
Do you use a Reader or a Blog Aggregator to check for updates? If so, which one(s)? It's a total mishmash. I use google reader and ldselect. I also check pages sometimes. Inconsistency is the hobgoblin of, etc., etc.
What types of posts are your favorites: photo, make me smile, deep thoughts, feminism, religion, (dis)ability, if this is you, poetry, etc? I tend to like the religion and feminism posts. And make me smile are often nice, too.
What types of posts do you skim or skip? Depends.
What would you like to see more of at pilgrimgirl? Sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Also, money for your readers.
If you could change one thing about this blog, what would it be? More plunging necklines, mini-skirts, and cleavage. And men in suits, of course.

What are your 3 favorite blogs?
Hmm. T&S, ZDs, and probably FMH, though it varies.
Why do you read blogs? It's cheaper than therapy.

All of them really.

I skim all and then focus on ones that seem particularly relevant, beautiful etc. (I really want to win the prize so that I can choose a photo, though, so I guess I like those.)

poems, posts on spirituality and living simply
If you could change one thing about this blog, what would it be?
nothing
What are your 3 favorite blogs?
BCC, Watch out for Mama, and this one
Why do you read blogs?
To learn from others and hopefully to implement some of their insights into my own life. I don't get that many opportunities for deep discussions in my "real" life, so reading blogs fills part of that need.

Tell me a little bit about yourself (such as age; sex/gender; region; religion; pets; milk or dark chocolate?): 24. Female. Mystic Liberal Christian, I think? I want a cockatiel really badly. Can I have both?

How did you originally find pilgrimgirl? From meeting Jana at outhouse.

How long have you been a reader? Since about last July, I think.

How frequently do you read? I just started using google reader, so whenever there is an update. (Ok, pretty much every day)

Do you use a Reader or a Blog Aggregator to check for updates? If so, which one(s)? yes, google reader

What types of posts are your favorites: 1) make me smile, 2) religion, 3)if this is you, 4) photos. But I really do like them all.

What types of posts do you skim or skip? The poetry...I feel guilty admitting so....

What would you like to see more of at pilgrimgirl? I really like reading the history of your religious journey, but I'd love to hear more about where you are currently and where you are headed. I can't remember reading very many posts about Quakerism or what types of beliefs you currently hold spiritually. (I guess what I'm saying is I like reading about what you don't believe but also would be interested in what you do believe.)

If you could change one thing about this blog, what would it be? Probably the same answer as above.

What are your 3 favorite blogs? Your husband's :-), Get Religion, and this one.

Why do you read blogs? Mostly to keep in touch and up to date with friends. I'm constantly trying to convert my friends into bloggers now! I've been mildly successful but have yet to get anyone as addicted to blogs as I seem to be.

I hope you don't mind that I've deleted your query about a particular family member. That person doesn't like to be named on my blog, so I'm trying to respect his wishes. It's a fine line that I walk sometimes, between sharing what's important about my life and respecting the privacy of my friends and extended family members. The latter seem especially unhappy when I mention them in the blogosphere.

That said, welcome to pilgrimgirl. I hope that you will continue to participate in this community--I look forward to hearing about your faith journey and gardening efforts. :)

Sorry; I meant to do this sooner. No prizes, please. This is just for you, because you asked. :)

Name/Alias: Sara/SaraArts
Blog Address: I have two, though one is very badly neglected, but I prefer to send people to my overall website, www.SaraArts.com
Me: 44 + 1 week; female; New England; atheist (agnostic only on the best of days); all out of pets; all chocolate is my friend, but I prefer it to be grown organically and not by slave labor
Found you: through Kay Olson's site; you remarked somewhere that you were a monopod due to cancer, too, so my curiosity was naturally piqued
Have been reading: I don't know how long; a couple of weeks? A few?
How frequently: I drop by daily on my morning coffee-and-blog surf. As often happens with sites where there is a lot of thoughtful content, there are a lot of posts I've tucked into my head for further reading later.
Reader/Aggregator: No. I like to see how people do things their own way.
Favorites: None yet.
Skim/skip: It depends how much time/focus I have that day. As I said, I often tuck things away mentally for later that I only skim initially.
Want to see more: It makes me sad that you should ask this question.
Change one thing: But it makes me even sadder that you should ask this one. This is you, being you, at least that's what I expect -- of all blogs, actually. It saddens me that you would invite other people to edit that.
Three favorite blogs: Way more than three. I list them all on my own blog.
Why read blogs: Blogs are a tremendous gift. Other people -- not all other people, of course, but so many -- are lucid, funny, intelligent, literate, thoughtful, insightful, unique, and loving, and they put it all out there, all these intimate windows into their own little worlds, for me and anyone else who happens by to come and gaze through for awhile, for free. How could I not read? :)

Cheers, Jana. At any rate, I really enjoy my visits here, and am happy to have found you.

Found you by exponent II and FMH. It has been about a year-ish? and then briefly met at sunstone. I think I am also a reader due to the fact that our husbands are both religion buffs. Some people just don't get!

I check all the dang time!

I love make me smiles, feminism, if this is you, and the disability posts (I can relate so much, and you articulate my exact emotions that I have been trying to express, so in a way you have been able to help my find my words (back surgery/spinal fusion/a lot of titanium....it its time for me to blog about it)

I never skip, but do skim poetry every now and again.

No critiques, nothing in my mind stands out.

my 3 favs (besides you of course):
Pasty is Pretty
economical baby
mormondonkeys.com

I read blogs to get inspired by different thoughts and opinions, and to keep myself connected to friends and family.

Hey, I just read mine over again and I'd like to make it clear that when I wrote "spiritual journey" I meant I wanted to hear more about your spiritual thoughts, not that I would want to change any of it.

Great, now I have to start worrying about Catgirl and Gameboy reading my comments? Why did that never occur to me? :-) My self-censor doesn't really work that well... Crap, have I already left horrible comments? Oh man, did I just say "crap?"

jana said...

Not to worry, my friend, about sanitizing your language for the kids. First of all, I think they rarely read the comments. Second of all, they are pretty familiar with a wide variety of swear words and innuendos. And what they aren't aware of will sail right over their heads :)

SURVEY

Name/alias: Gray. Not my name in the physical world, but it has been my internet name for 18 years, when few people were online. On the internet it clearly feels like my name and not an alias.

Email address: Available via blogger

Blog address: N/A

Tell me a little bit about yourself (such as age; sex/gender; region; religion; pets; milk or dark chocolate?): 51 year old faceless male bureaucrat in human services. Husband, father, gardener, semi-pro musician, long distance backpacker. A New Englander, and nominal Unitarian, raising my daughter as a Jew. It is vaguely embarrassing these days to have been born a male WASP with long Yankee roots, but at least I have Australian convicts in my history to add a little color.

Dark chocolate preferred, but I rarely indulge. Fresh heirloom fruits and vegetables from my garden or the CSA farm to which I belong, and good Darjeeling tea are my true culinary passions.

I love both the abacus and the rose. My life and my career have always reflected the tension between scientific thought and technical creativity, and the importance of people, feelings, and art.

I like people and the artifacts of humanity, but my favorite locations are in wild places, preferably high ones accessible only by muscle power, very, far from the madding crowd.

How did you originally find pilgrimgirl?

I can't say. I came upon it more than once from completely different directions. Most likely from my interest in disabilities.

How long have you been a reader?

Since about November, 2005. I think that my first comment was the following month.

How frequently do you read?
Once a day to twice a month, depending on how busy I am.

Do you use a Reader or a Blog Aggregator to check for updates? If so, which one(s)? Depends on what computer I am using. On my main home computer I use Sage with Firefox on a Linux computer.

What types of posts are your favorites: photo, make me smile, deep thoughts, feminism, religion, (dis)ability, if this is you, poetry, etc?

The religion posts fascinate me the most, though they don't feel like favorites. The complex and changing relationships you and John have had with Mormonism are absolutely fascinating and thought-provoking.

My favorite posts are favorites not because of topic, but because of the clarity and transparency of your entries about issues that are difficult for you or events that have challenged your soul. Sometimes you write lightly about important issues in a way that is somehow far more evocative than if you had dealt with the feelings themselves. (Bach moves me more than Wagner, and Basho can convey more feeling than Whitman.)

I suppose to answer your question, disability issues, the inner lives of plants, and your infrequent observations on your students are my favorite subjects. I enjoy the comments too, particularly John's.

What types of posts do you skim or skip?

I truly enjoy reading about your family, and am a little jealous of you all. Yet, it feels a little too voyeuristic for comfort, given that I do not know you personally. I sometimes skip those entries because an open window is not the same as an invitation to look in.

What would you like to see more of at pilgrimgirl?

More about your students and school.

If you could change one thing about this blog, what would it be? Why depart from the optimal?

What are your 3 favorite blogs?
Mostly I read professional blogs on technical topics.

My three favorite personal blogs are all written by women on opposite coast. All three write very well, all have experienced disability, and all place importance on some combination of written, visual, or performance arts. All three of you frequently write about things I know almost nothing about (like LDS).

Why do you read blogs?

That question is too big to answer now!

Oh- And thank you very much for blogging!
