May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. ~Edward Abbey
i really want to like edward abbey. but i started desert solitaire and it didn't captivate me the way refuge or a sand county almanac or pilgrim at tinker's creek did.
what you've got to remember about Edward Abbey is that he hates people. His only love is the land. And he thinks he's really the only person who can truly enjoy the land. That said, I really loved Desert Solitaire, but in a different way from Refuge

i just have very little patience for misanthropes. i think it's one of the more narcissistic attitudes people indulge in.
but someday i'll give abbey another chance. because i love the land he loves, too.
