It seems very silly to say that your experience (or the way I feel when I go camping alongside a river in the mountains surrounded by forest, away from all "civilisation") isn't holy or spiritual.

Those (and other) rules seem to be there not to really help individuals but to keep them coming to church (paying tithing), etc., not because it's the best thing for the individual, or even group.Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09374110841642375968noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14231518.post-3293934787546114762009-02-24T11:35:00.000-08:002009-02-24T11:35:00.000-08:00Beautiful, Jana!Beautiful, Jana!EmilyCChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01918791885873980643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14231518.post-40502190883722403972009-02-24T08:54:00.000-08:002009-02-24T08:54:00.000-08:00The way I see it, Jana, you are keeping the sabbat...The way I see it, Jana, you are keeping the sabbath holy by going to rowing practice on Sunday mornings.

You are out in and enjoying nature. In my opinion, nature is a part of whatever deity might exist in the universe, so what you are doing is worship of a sort.

You are taking care of your body and your health by getting physical activity. That would be taking the stewardship of your physical being seriously, also worship.

You are obviously taking joy from this activity, and to paraphrase (broadly, I suppose) one of the few Mormon sayings/scriptures that I can still hang with, "Humans are, that they might have joy."

I'd say that all qualifies as keeping the sabbath holy. Which is probably one of the reasons that I'm no longer Mormon, but that's a whole other discussion.

Have a lovely day.

Elainelittlemissattitudehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09826943351455750612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14231518.post-71560094447433906452009-02-24T04:53:00.000-08:002009-02-24T04:53:00.000-08:00Your new endeavor sounds glorious and beautiful :)...Your new endeavor sounds glorious and beautiful :) and I'm pretty jealous. I also fully understand the feelings toward the chapel and its patrons. I look back with regret, though, and it's hard to feel any sort of holiness when you feel scammed. The only thing that mitigates the bitterness is that I found my Derek there, and wouldn't have otherwise.sarah k.https://www.blogger.com/profile/18443012372866539495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14231518.post-55262958796890668392009-02-23T22:01:00.000-08:002009-02-23T22:01:00.000-08:00You've clearly been energized by these endeavors. ...You've clearly been energized by these endeavors.
